Call for Performers!
The Feminist Action Collective is looking for women interested in
playing an acting role in their performance of the Vagina Monologues on
March 8, 2011. The Vagina Monologues are written by Eve Ensler after
interviewing 200+ women on the topic of their vagina. These empowering
monologues allow women to positively identify with their bodies and
experiences, as well as spread awareness of violence against women and
girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM)
and sex slavery. If you are interested in performing a monologue please

Brock University Muslim Students’ Association hosts Islam Awareness Week
Begins January 17 at Brock University
Brock University Muslim Students’ Association (MSA) will hold its
annual Islam Awareness week beginning January 17, 2011. The week has
been established as part of the MSA’s goal to clarify misconceptions
about Islam and to treat Islamophobia. This year’s Islam Awareness
Week’s theme will discuss the Muslim Holy book, The Quran.
This year, the week will feature a daily series of lectures, campus
wide distribution of informational pamphlets and publications, a major
awareness campaign and information tables for questions and answers.
The lecture series will feature some of Canada’s highly acclaimed Muslim
speakers and will discuss such topics as;
-The holistic message of the Quran by Shaikh Uthman Khan
-Scientific miracles within the Quran by Dr. Aliya Khan
-Morality and character development within the Quran by Shaikh Zakaria Warsame

Free! Documentary Screening: RSA Animate Selections
Tuesday January 18, 8 pm, OPIRG Brock InfoShop, 10 Summer St.
Come down to the InfoShop for a riveting film and delicious popcorn and refreshments. Film to be followed by discussion.
RSA Animate is a series of shorts produced by a British multidisciplinary organization known as the Royal Society of Arts. These shorts feature a lecture or intellectual argument, accompanied by time lapsed footage of a cartoon artist bringing the argument to life visually. It's fascinating to watch, and the humorous drawings help to summarize complex concepts and make them easier to grasp, especially for visual learners. I'll be picking out some of my favourites, featuring revolutionary ideas about topics like economics or education. I'm looking forward to showing these shorts to those who haven't seen them before, but even if you have, please come out anyway so that you can contribute to the discussion!

OPIRG Brock’s very own Ryan Donnelly and Andrew Barclay host a
roundtable discussion – around a table that is not round - of the week’s
most controversial news stories on social justice and environmental
issues.

Petition for Publically Accessible Organic Waste Bins and
Organic Waste Collection for Compost on Campus at Brock University is
Gaining Momentum!
700 SIGNATURES AND COUNTING!
Engaged Citizens Organized (ECO) and OPIRG have created a petition
requesting that there be at least one publically available organic waste
bin with collection for composting in each building on campus at Brock
University as well as an educational campaign to encourage active
participation in the organic waste composting program. Please consider
downloading a copy of the petition to circulate (e.g. to bring to your
classes to fill out) - see the OPIRG website at http://opirgbrock.org/files/Organics%20on%20Campus%20Petition-1.pdf.

Day/Time: Starting the first week of February classes will held on
Saturdays from 2-3pm – however, some weeks the instructor will be out of
town so please contact instructor directly
Location: InfoShop, 10 Summer Street (right behind Pizza Pizza on St. Paul Street)
This yoga class will be an intro to Hatha yoga. The hope is that the same folks will be coming out each week as Randi likes to build classes gradually (as opposed to reworking the same things all the time). It is a beginner class, leading to more advanced - depending on where the class directs itself. It will be an hour long class. Folks should bring a yoga mat, comfortable clothes (no jeans!), water and be prepared to work in bare feet. Please be sure to be on time.

International Women's Day Festival: Celebrating Women in the Arts

Gillian's Place and Women's Place of South Niagara are partnering for
the first time to host the International Women's Day Festival:
Celebrating Women in the Arts. Enjoy performances from professional
musicians, a vendor fair, concessions, bar, 50/50 draw, a raffle and an
artist's showcase. This event is a perfect way to celebrate
International Women's Day and the accomplishments of women with family
