The InfoShop will now be hosting a new project for anyone needing bike repairs (especially those who can't afford such things) on Thursdays from 1-6. The Kind Cycle project is free to those in need, and by donation if possible. If you are interested in learning how to fix bikes, and want to help out with this project, please stop by at the InfoShop between 1-6 pm on Thursdays.

Call for Poets and Acoustic Musicians
Are you a voice to be reckoned with? Do you want your creative moods to be heard or your talent to be noticed? OPIRG Brock is looking for poets or acoustic musicians for our first VOICE NIGHT - a night of coming together and being inspired by the sounds of local talent. TED is a global series of conferences that feature experts making short presentations on a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture. Many of these talks have been made available for free though www.ted.com. This week, OPIRG board member and Brock Psychology student Peter Lozinov will be hosting while Brian Gasbarini is on vacation. Peter has made some special selections on a topic that is ripe for controversial discussion: "The Psychology of Evil". Peter will be showing a TED Talk by Philip Zimbardo, titled "How people become monsters...and heroes". He’ll also be presenting a short BBC Horizons documentary on the topic of human violence.

The Department of Geography Presents Waterlife - a film which follows the epic cascade of the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. From the icy cliffs of Lake Superior to the ornate fountains of Chicago to the sewers of Windsor, this feature-length documentary tells the story of the last great supply (20 percent) of fresh water on Earth. This is a chance for you to watch the documentary and meet the award winning director, Kevin McMahon! Free coffee and cookies!

The Feminist Action Collective will be hosting a free documentary night on Wednesday, October 20th at the OPIRG Downtown InfoShop (10 Summer Street, behind Pizza Pizza) starting at 7 pm. We will be showing two provocative documentaries. In Breasts: A Documentary twenty-two women (ranging in age from 11 to 84), with 41 breasts, talk about their breasts; most are topless as they speak. They talk about adolescence, bras, commercial images of women's figures, having implants or, in one case, a breast reduction, health problems with silicone, doctors' exams ("I think you have a throat infection, let me examine your breasts"), breasts as power tools and as objects of pleasure, cancer, living with mastectomies, and the effects of time and gravity. Killing Us Softly 3 examines the impact modern day advertising has on women and uses over 160 ads and TV commercials to critique advertising's image of women. By fostering creative and productive dialogue, this film invites viewers to look at familiar images in a new way that moves and empowers them to take action. The films will be followed by thought-provoking discussion. Hope to see you there!

Up to 1000 people are killed every day by small arms. In addition to that for every 1 dollar spent on aid, 10 dollars is spent on producing small arms. Governments often lose track of these arms, or openly sell them to irresponsible parties. This event will be supporting the world wide movement to put pressure on the United Nations to introduce a treaty calling for stricter control of small arms and light weapons. The campaign asks that participants write "Control the Arms Trade" on their hand, then have a photo taken of them. That photo will be added to a collage, which will be added to an international banner presented to the United Nations attempting to persuade the UN to adopt the arms control treaty. If you show up and offer your time not only will you be joining the international movement, you will also be rewarded with a free baked good!

Join the Brock Animal Rights Club for the third screening in their film series. Killer of Sheep examines the black Los Angeles ghetto of Watts in the mid-1970s through the eyes of Stan, a sensitive dreamer who is growing detached and numb from the psychic toll of working at a slaughterhouse.
