Volunteer Opportunities!
InfoShop Volunteers:
The InfoShop is a resource
for information about social and environmental activism, a local
community assistance outlet for information, and a space for volunteer
organization and workshops. It houses a zine library, has working group information and is a resource for activist art.
The InfoShop is a great
place to meet folks interested in social justice and environmental
issues - and to connect with your local community. If
you are a returning volunteer or would like to take a little of your
time each week to help us run the InfoShop that would be great!

FreeSkool Educators:
The OPIRG Freeskool is a
project that is designed to challenge the hierarchical and institutional
way learning is primarily conducted in our community. We reject the
notion that only some kinds of knowledge are valuable, or that only
certain people are accredited enough to share information. We embrace
radical accessibility and critical consciousness.
We are looking for teachers for our winter term lineup. If
you’ve got a passion for sharing what you know – be it zine making,
physics, knitting, creative writing, and so on - send us word. We are looking for folks interested in hosting a class, be it on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis.

Introduction to Africa
Monday December 20, 7 pm, OPIRG Brock InfoShop, 10 Summer St.
This Free Skool class outlines the individual history of specific African states. Too often Africa is categorized as one simple homogenous entity. This
class will help explain some of the differences between states, and
show some of the important changes that have occurred since
decolonization. This week instructor Andrew Barclay will focus his lecture on Botswana.
Free! Documentary Screening: The Trouble with the Pope
Tuesday December 21, 8 pm, OPIRG Brock InfoShop, 10 Summer St.
Come down to the InfoShop for riveting film and delicious popcorn and refreshments. Film to be followed by discussion.Produced to coincide with Pope Benedict's visit to the UK this past September, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell examines the beliefs and policies of the leader of the Catholic church. He takes a look at the impact that Pope Benedict XVI's pronouncements have had on both the developing and the western world and questions his policies on a range of issues, including his opposition to condom use, embryonic stem cell research and his handling of the child sex abuse scandal.
Note that there will be no documentary film screening Dec 28th - We'll be taking a break for the holidays, and returning on January 5th.
TransParent, PFLAG St. Catharines, and Transgender Niagara’s Winter Solstice Service
Tuesday December 21, 7 pm, Unitarian Congregation of Niagara, 223 Church Street, St. Catharines Ontario
TransParent, PFLAG St. Catharines, and
Transgender Niagara welcome everyone to this annual event for the sexual
and gender-diverse community of Niagara and for the broader community.
First Nations drummers will be performing. Refreshments will be

pARTners for change, Thank You Everyone
An enormous THANK YOU to all those who donated, volunteered, organized and participated in pARTners for change. The event was a huge success with over one hundred people in attendance. Pan Cafe and the InfoShop’s walls were filled with incredible art. The
pARTnership between OPIRG-Brock and the Department of Visual Arts
resulted in substantial funds being raised for both student scholarships
and OPIRG-Brock programming.
FreeSkool Programming
Our last day of regular FreeSkool programming will be occurring on Monday December 20. We look forward to telling you about our new programming schedule in January!
