Coast to coast interactive art! We are hoping that each PIRG from
across the country will contribute 30 submissions, totaling 600 over the
course of the next 5 months.
The Project: Please help us collect 5,000 “expressions” (drawings or writings) from the public for the symbolic return of the 5000 Chinese railway workers who lost their lives during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The work will be collected, exhibited, and brought to the province of Guangdong for permanent burial.
Over the month of July 2011, David Cheung, a contemporary artist and his two sons who are descendants of a railway worker, will travel by train and by bicycle along the section of the railway constructed by the Chinese workers. They will research and gather information about the railway workers and their families for the project beginning in Revelstoke, B.C. and ending in Victoria, home to a cemetery where some of the railway workers are buried.
Submission deadline is October 15, 2011.
